Manchester United has announced it will trigger a one-year extension on Harry Maguire's contract, securing the defender's stay at Old Trafford until the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, as was confirmed by manager Ruben Amorim this Friday.
Maguire's existing contract was set to expire at the end of the current season. At a news conference, Amorim expressed that he had discussions with Maguire, urging him to enhance both his game and leadership on the pitch. Despite past challenges, Amorim conveyed that the team relies heavily on Maguire at this juncture, and thus, they are pleased to activate the extension option.
Maguire, who moved to Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019 and once held the captaincy, now finds himself at a crucial point of his career. Amorim also mentioned winger Amad Diallo's impending contract extension, as the club, sitting 14th in the Premier League, gets ready to clash with league leaders Liverpool on Sunday.
