In a proud moment for Indian sports, wrestler Aman Sehrawat, nominated for the 2024 Arjuna Awards, has revealed his aspiration of clinching a gold medal for India at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Sehrawat's journey gained momentum after he captured a bronze medal in the 57 kg freestyle wrestling at the Paris Olympics last year, defeating Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz.
At just 21, Sehrawat became the country's youngest Olympic medalist, showcasing remarkable resilience in a gripping match where he bounced back from an initial deficit to secure victory with a 13-5 scoreline. "Every player's dream is to receive the Arjuna Award," he expressed, attributing his motivation to the respect and encouragement from the nation.
Sehrawat's achievements place him alongside prominent Indian athletes who have been acknowledged with prestigious awards. Notably, double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker and World Chess Champion Gukesh Dommaraju were conferred with the Khel Ratna. The award ceremony will take place on January 17, 2025, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, attended by President Droupadi Murmu.
