Kazakhstan reached the United Cup mixed teams tennis semifinals after a narrow 2-1 victory over Germany. Alexander Zverev, Germany's world No. 2-ranked player, was unable to compete due to a biceps injury, leading to Shevchenko's pivotal victory over Zverev's substitute Daniel Masur.
Shevchenko took a medical timeout but returned to clinch the match, pushing Kazakhstan through as Germany later won the mixed doubles match. Meanwhile, Poland, led by Swiatek and Hurcacz, won their doubles match against the Czech Republic in Sydney, securing a quarterfinal spot.
Matches elsewhere saw the United States and Britain also progressing to quarterfinals in Perth and Sydney, respectively. Italy emerged successful from Group D in Sydney, advancing in the tournament as play consolidated there from Thursday through final weekend.
