Double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet shattered the women's 5km world record, clocking in at an impressive 13 minutes 54 seconds at the Cursa dels Nassos road race held in Barcelona.

The Kenyan athlete surpassed her previous record, set exactly a year ago at the same race, by 19 seconds, becoming the first woman to break the 14-minute barrier in this event. Chebet, running solo, celebrated with friends at the finish line after achieving yet another milestone in an already remarkable year, having secured victories in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters during the year's Paris Games.

Chebet expressed her delight, stating, "I'm super happy as everything went according to plan." The 24-year-old had an almost flawless year, breaking the 10,000m world record in Eugene in May and clinching her second Diamond League title in the 5,000m in September. Looking ahead, Chebet is setting her sights on the World Championships in Tokyo in 2025, aiming to compete in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
