Australia's head coach, Andrew McDonald, has provided an update on the fitness of all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, confirming that the 33-year-old is in good shape despite recent concerns. This comes after Australia's impressive 184-run victory over India in the Melbourne Test, giving them a 2-1 lead in the series and ending India's hopes of reaching the World Test Championship Final.
In previous matches, Marsh struggled to bowl with full intensity, particularly in Perth where he barely bowled during India's second innings. Despite this, Marsh was included in the squad for the subsequent Test matches. During the Melbourne Test, he managed to bowl ten overs, easing worries about his effectiveness in the series.
Speaking to the media, McDonald acknowledged that Marsh hasn't performed to expectations across the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. "People might be reading too much into Marsh's limited bowling, but there've been no injury doubts," McDonald stated. "His current bowling speed is over 120 kmph and there's nothing to be concerned about; it's more about tactical decisions."
Australia had set a challenging target of 340 runs for India on Day 05 of the Melbourne Test. However, a formidable Australian bowling lineup dismissed India for 155 runs within 80 overs, with Pat Cummins earning the 'Player of the Match' title for his all-round show.
The final match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set for January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where India and Australia will clash again. (ANI)
