The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has raised strong objections against the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) plan to take the Champions Trophy on a tour through 'Pakistan Occupied Kashmir' (POK). This move led the International Cricket Council (ICC) to pause the promotional event, citing diplomatic sensitivities.
Last held in 2017, the tournament faces uncertainty, especially as the BCCI informed ICC of India's inability to travel to Pakistan. Rejecting the proposed 'Hybrid Model' that suggested matches in Dubai, the PCB's actions without stakeholder consent have complicated preparations further. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah condemned the initiative and urged the ICC to consider consequences.
A senior BCCI official revealed that Shah directly communicated with ICC's leadership regarding the unauthorized trophy tour to POK. The Trophy Tour, designed for promotional visits, became controversial after PCB's announcements on social media. Despite scenic locations like Skardu and Hunza being highlighted, potential ICC disapproval looms over the tour's disputed destinations.
