In a gripping finale at the Chennai Grand Masters 2024, GM Aravindh Chithambaram emerged victorious, securing the championship after an electrifying blitz play-off victory against GM Levon Aronian. Aravindh's strategic prowess in the concluding rounds propelled him to the podium, marking a significant triumph in the Masters category.

The tournament showcased a fierce competition among top-rated players, with an average rating of 2729 in the Masters category. Intriguingly, a new Challengers category was introduced, fostering emerging Indian talent. In this debut category, GM V Pranav displayed exceptional skill, remaining unbeaten to seize the title.

Tamil Nadu's support for chess was prominently on display, with 31 Grandmasters hailing from the state. The event, praised by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, highlighted the region's commitment to sports, particularly chess, further enhancing India's global presence in the sport.
