Former cricketer Michael Hussey has voiced his support for India's renowned batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, urging critics not to dismiss their capabilities ahead of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The much-anticipated series is set to commence on November 22 in Perth, before moving to Adelaide and Brisbane for the second and third Tests, respectively. The traditional Boxing Day Test will take place in Melbourne, while the final Test is slated for Sydney on January 3.
During an appearance on Fox Sports, Hussey highlighted that the first Test against Australia would be revealing for India in terms of both their mental and technical readiness. He praised India for having several star performers but acknowledged that players like Sharma and Kohli were facing mounting criticism for recent performances. "Writing off players of their calibre would be a mistake," Hussey remarked.
Despite criticisms, Hussey expressed confidence in the duo's ability to deliver under pressure, noting their track record of performing after facing scrutiny. Meanwhile, India head coach Gautam Gambhir dismissed external criticism of Sharma and Kohli, emphasizing their unwavering dedication and ambition. The series against Australia is pivotal as India aims for a 4-1 victory to secure a place in the World Test Championship Final.
