Marco Giampaolo Takes Charge at Lecce Amid Relegation Battle
Marco Giampaolo has been appointed as Lecce's head coach on a contract that extends to the season's end, following the departure of Luca Gotti. Gotti was sacked due to poor performances that saw Lecce nearing relegation. Giampaolo's contract renews automatically if the team achieves safety.
Lecce Football Club has appointed Marco Giampaolo as their new head coach on a contract expiring at the end of the current season, the club revealed on Monday. This decision follows the dismissal of former coach Luca Gotti over the weekend amid a disappointing string of results.
The club sacked Gotti after a series of poor performances pushed Lecce close to the relegation zone. Giampaolo, who previously led AC Milan and was last at Sampdoria in 2022, steps in to guide Lecce to safety.
In their statement, Lecce announced that the 57-year-old's contract includes an automatic renewal clause, contingent upon the team securing their spot in Serie A for the next season.
