Indian squash prodigy Anahat Singh emerged victorious at the NSW Open 2024 in Sydney, Australia, securing her seventh Professional Squash Association (PSA) Challengers title this year. The 16-year-old, seeded second in the tournament, bested unseeded 15-year-old Helen Tang from Hong Kong in the finals, bouncing back from an initial game loss to win 3-1 (8-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-4).
Anahat's path to the title included a 3-1 semifinal victory over Hong Kong's Wong Po Yui Kirstie and a quarterfinal triumph against seventh-seed Akari Midorikawa from Japan, also with a 3-1 scoreline. Benefiting from a first-round bye, courtesy of her higher seeding, she started her campaign by defeating Japan's wildcard entrant, Kurumi Takahashi.
Meanwhile, fellow Indian player Urwashi Joshi, who was seeded fourth, couldn't advance past the second round, falling to South Korea's Dong Ju Song in a 3-1 upset. Anahat Singh's stellar performance in Sydney builds on her rapid rise up the global rankings, as she enters the top 100 for the first time following recent victories, including the Costa North Coast Open.
