Explosive batsman Shashank Singh is determined to honor the faith shown by Punjab Kings, who retained him for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) following his strong performance in the previous season. Shashank is one of only two players retained by Punjab Kings, alongside wicketkeeper-batsman Prabhsimran Singh.

Shashank's retention is a testament to his impressive 2024 season, where he scored 354 runs in 14 matches, with a strike rate of 164.65 and an average of 44.25, cementing his place as one of the league's top finishers. "I am extremely grateful for this opportunity from the franchise and the trust they've placed in me. Now, it's my turn to prove them right," he expressed in a press release from Punjab Kings.

The six-hitting sensation looks forward to working under the guidance of new head coach, Ricky Ponting, in the 2025 season. "Working with Ricky Ponting sir will be incredible. He's a legend, and I'm keen on learning under his guidance," said Shashank, who has long admired Ponting's cricketing prowess.

Ponting, a former Australian captain, will take charge amid coaching turmoil, becoming the third head coach for Punjab Kings in as many seasons after a disappointing ninth-place finish last year. The team, which has not reached the playoffs since 2014, aims to reverse their fortunes under Ponting's leadership.

Buoyed by his retention, Shashank is eager to contribute to Punjab's success, driven by the trust of both the franchise and the fans. "As a professional, you must give your 100 per cent. I owe it to the team and the supporters to aim for the championship," he emphasized. (ANI)
