Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 retention announcement, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra predicted significant interest and high bids at the upcoming mega auction for Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul. Both players, who are not being retained by Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, are expected to draw substantial attention from franchises.
"Rishabh Pant is expected to earn a substantial amount, potentially reaching Rs 25 to 30 crore," Chopra stated on his YouTube channel. He also noted that KL Rahul, known for scoring 500-600 runs annually, will likely attract similar bids, despite some criticism of his strike rate. October 31 marks the deadline for franchises to announce retained players ahead of the auction.
The IPL's governing body has set the auction purse for franchises at Rs 120 crore for the 2025 season, alongside an expanded salary cap. The new structure includes a match fee of Rs 7.5 lakh per game for each player. Minimum retention deductions range from Rs 18 crore for the first player to Rs 4 crore for an uncapped player, giving teams flexibility in retention decisions.
