Alexander Zverev kicked off his Paris Masters run confidently, securing a 7-6(2) 6-3 victory against Tallon Griekspoor. Meanwhile, a major surprise came as Russian fourth seed Daniil Medvedev was eliminated by Alexei Popyrin in a tense 6-4 2-6 7-6(4) match.

Medvedev's exit mirrored his controversial departure at the same stage last year. The tournament also proved challenging for American players as Taylor Fritz suffered a narrow defeat to Britain's Jack Draper, and Ben Shelton was beaten by Frenchman Arthur Cazaux.

Elsewhere, ninth seed Alex de Minaur advanced by defeating Miomir Kecmanovic, while Dane Holger Rune comfortably won against Alexander Bublik. Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov overcame a first-set deficit to defeat Tomas Martin Etcheverry, and Frenchman Ugo Humbert set up a clash with Carlos Alcaraz by beating Marcos Giro.
