Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have finalized their roster by retaining Australian batsman Travis Head and promising Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Sources indicate that Head remains with SRH for Rs 14 crore, while Reddy's contract is valued at Rs 6 crore.
These strategic retentions complete SRH's lineup of five capped players, fortifying the core team that advanced to the IPL 2024 finals. The expense of these retentions will reduce SRH's auction purse by INR 75 crore from their total of INR 120 crore. Previously, SRH confirmed the continuation of Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, and Abhishek Sharma, making them eligible to utilize a right-to-match card for future player acquisitions.
The IPL requires all franchises to submit their retained players by October 31. Franchises can retain up to six players, including no more than five capped internationals, before the 2025 season's mega auction. The IPL mandates minimum deductions for each retained player, although franchises may exceed these amounts.
Under Pat Cummins' leadership, SRH reached the playoffs in 2024 for the first time since 2020. Travis Head excelled in the 2024 IPL season with notable contributions, including a cumulative 567 runs and a commendable strike rate. Reddy emerged as a significant prospect for SRH, earning accolades like the Emerging Player of the Year for his contributions in runs and wickets.
Despite an injury setback preventing Reddy from participating in a T20I series in Zimbabwe, he made his debut in the home series against Bangladesh. As a rising star, Reddy is set to join the India A squad for matches in Australia starting October 31. (ANI)
