Shubman Gill, captain of the Gujarat Titans, has strategically decided to take a pay cut, becoming the second player retained by the franchise just before the October 31 deadline.
Gill led the Titans for the first time this season and, alongside the management, is eager to keep a strong core of players intact. Star spinner Rashid Khan is expected to be the first player retained, followed by Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and uncapped talents Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan.
The Titans have an option to retain yet another team member using the right to match card at the upcoming mega auction, expected to be held overseas in late November. Gill's pay cut move is seen as a future leadership step in Indian cricket circuits.
