FFR's Alcohol Ban: A Tackle on Discipline
The French Rugby Federation (FFR) has prohibited alcohol consumption during national team gatherings to enhance discipline following recent off-field controversies. Measures include drug and alcohol tests, and restrictions at key venues. The decision is backed by players and aligns with recent incidents involving team members.
In a bid to restore discipline, the French Rugby Federation (FFR) has implemented a ban on alcohol during national team gatherings. This follows a series of off-field controversies this year. Key steps include proposals for drug and alcohol testing, with alcohol consumption prohibited at the national rugby centre, stadiums, and locker rooms.
FFR vice president Jean-Marc Lhermet emphasized that these locations are meant for developing players' physical and tactical skills. 'Alcohol is not authorised in these places,' he stated. The federation's move comes after several incidents, notably involving fullback Melvyn Jaminet, who received a lengthy ban for a racially charged social media post.
Coach Fabien Galthie noted the players' support for the new measures. 'It was a logical and coherent development,' he commented, referencing the recent controversies. Upcoming matches against Japan, New Zealand, and Argentina are set as the team enforces these new policies.
