In a remarkable feat, India's young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal etched his name in the history books by becoming the fifth cricketer to amass 1,000 Test runs in a calendar year before turning 23. Playing against New Zealand in Pune, the 22-year-old managed a composed knock of 30, bringing his total to a landmark achievement in 2024.
Joining an exclusive club, Jaiswal now stands alongside cricket luminaries such as Garfield Sobers, Graeme Smith, AB de Villiers, and Alastair Cook. He also shares a 2024 tally with England's prolific batter Joe Root. However, his innings was cut short by New Zealand's Glenn Phillips, who secured Jaiswal's wicket in his debut over.
Despite Jaiswal's promising start, India's innings faltered, collapsing to 70/4 after his dismissal. New Zealand's Mitchell Santner spearheaded the bowling attack, limiting India to 156 with a stunning seven-wicket haul. In response, New Zealand adopted an aggressive stance, dominating the Indian spinners, though late breakthroughs kept India's series hopes alive.
