Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins shared a light-hearted take on potential excuses for losing the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, commencing November 22 in Perth. Speaking on The Grade Cricketer podcast, Cummins humorously speculated about ways to justify a loss, particularly in light of being a first-time captain for the series.

The Australian team faces a significant setback as all-rounder Cameron Green, who had been slated for a pivotal role, is sidelined due to back surgery. His absence disrupts the team's balance, as Green was expected to step in as an opener and crucial pace-bowling all-rounder following David Warner's retirement and Steve Smith's move up the batting order.

Green's projected recovery time, approximately six months, rules him out of additional major events, including Australia's Test tour of Sri Lanka and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. The Australian team management is now tasked with reconfiguring the lineup, seeking a stable opening partner for Usman Khawaja and effectively managing the workload of their leading bowlers.

As Australia prepares for the series against India, Cummins expressed a desire for balanced wickets, reflecting on past tours and the challenges presented by India's spinning pitches. Cummins concluded that a competitive series would benefit both teams, with the first test marking the start of a series culminating in January at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
