The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) announced the launch of the country's first franchise-based shooting league, named the 'Shooting League of India.' Proposed by NRAI president Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, the idea has been approved by the national body's governing unit.
Scheduled for March, the league aims to boost shooting's popularity following India's noteworthy performance in the Paris Olympics, where shooters secured three medals, marking a significant achievement. Deo emphasized the importance of self-sustainability for athletes and attracting new audiences and revenue through the league.
Recognizing that traditional Olympic formats may not be television-friendly, the NRAI explored various options and is hopeful of engaging new viewers. The league still requires approval from the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), the global governing body, highlighting ongoing efforts to elevate the sport.
