Former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin showcased her resilience and skill as she triumphed over 10th-seeded Wang Xinyu in the first round of the Pan Pacific Open, winning decisively with scores of 6-1, 6-4.

Kenin, who claimed the Australian Open title in 2020 and was a finalist at the French Open that same year, has consistently bested Wang in their encounters, maintaining a flawless record against the Chinese player.

Despite setbacks such as injuries and a COVID-19 withdrawal, Kenin, once ranked No. 4 in the world, continues to compete fiercely. Her successful advance into the second round was mirrored by Canadian players Bianca Andreescu and Leylah Fernandez, who also secured victories in their opening matches.
