Jordan Cox, at 24, is on the brink of his Test debut as England's wicketkeeper for their tour in New Zealand, stepping in for Jamie Smith, who will take paternity leave. Cox, previously England's reserve batter, will seize the opportunity to prove himself in December.

Smith, expecting his first child with his partner, emphasized the importance of family over cricket, stating he wouldn't regret missing part of the series for the birth of his son. Meanwhile, Cox debuted in England's T20I series against Australia last month and is set to participate in the Caribbean tour.

Despite a serious finger injury last year preventing him from keeping wicket for Essex, Cox has been honing his skills under the guidance of England's head coach Brendon McCullum. England has high hopes for Cox, despite his limited experience behind the stumps, and sees New Zealand as the ideal setting to test his wicketkeeping capabilities.
