The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has presented the Draft National Sports Governance Bill 2024 to the public, inviting opinions and suggestions from citizens and stakeholders. This initiative is part of the ministry's pre-legislative process aimed at refining India's sports governance structures.

The proposed bill seeks to revolutionize sports governance in India by introducing measures for the promotion and development of sports, along with welfare improvements for athletes. It emphasizes good governance, ethical practices, and the establishment of institutional capacities adhering to international standards.

Key highlights of the bill include the creation of the Sports Regulatory Board of India to oversee National Sports Federations, the formation of Athletes' Commissions for athlete representation, and the establishment of a Safe Sports Policy to protect athletes. It also outlines frameworks for public accountability, inclusivity, dispute resolution, and adherence to ethical standards and anti-doping norms.
