As India gears up for a home Test series against New Zealand starting October 16 in Bengaluru, head coach Gautam Gambhir has expressed confidence in Virat Kohli's form. Kohli, a pivotal figure in the lineup, is expected to deliver crucial runs as the team eyes maintaining its home-ground supremacy.
Despite Kohli's recent inconsistency in Test cricket, particularly throughout the 2020s, Gambhir emphasized the player's undiminished hunger to perform. Over the past decade, Kohli has amassed 1,745 runs in 31 Tests, a performance considered below his customary standards. However, the ICC World Test Championship has showcased a resurgence, with the batsman scoring 468 runs at an average of 52.00.
Gambhir also addressed team selection, justifying choices based on current performance needs. While New Zealand presents a formidable challenge, India aims to play fearlessly and assertively. With Jasprit Bumrah serving as vice-captain to Rohit Sharma, India's squad remains focused on overcoming the Kiwis without distractions from the upcoming ICC World Test Championship at Lord's.
