The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is embroiled in controversy as its President, PT Usha, has prohibited IOA staff from following directives issued by joint secretary Kalyan Chaubey. The announcement comes after Chaubey released an agenda for an upcoming Special General Body Meeting, a move PT Usha condemned as "illegal and unauthorized."
Released on official IOA letterhead, Chaubey's agenda included 26 items, one of which called for a vote of no confidence against Usha. He claimed that he was acting on a directive from 12 members of the IOA Executive Council. However, Usha asserted that Chaubey does not have the authority to act as the organization's CEO, a position officially held by Raghuram Iyer since January 2024.
The internal strife has seen significant backlash, with tensions escalating between Usha and other senior members. Usha claims that certain individuals are orchestrating efforts to disrupt IOA operations, as accusations of constitutional violations and governance challenges loom large.
