In a spellbinding display of batting prowess, England's Joe Root exhibited a stellar performance against Pakistan during the second Test in Multan, smashing 262 runs off 375 balls at a strike rate of 69.87. Root magnificently struck 17 fours before being dismissed by Agha Salman in the 137th over.

On day four, Root's exceptional innings saw him join the illustrious ranks of cricket's greats, matching Graeme Smith's record of four double centuries away from home. The elite group also features legends such as Don Bradman, Brian Lara, and Kumar Sangakkara, who have the highest record of five double hundreds on foreign soil.

Root's formidable tally of six double hundreds places him second in England's history, surpassing Alastair Cook's five, while Wally Hammond leads with seven. Moreover, Root matched the record for most 250-plus scores for England alongside Cook and Hammond and equalled Virender Sehwag's record against Pakistan with two 250-plus scores.

Adding another feather to his cap, Root became the first visiting batter in Asia to score a double hundred in India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. Pakistan, having won the toss to bat first, scored 556, thanks to superb centuries by Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique, and a significant fifty by Saud Shakeel.

England's response was steered by half-centuries from Crawley and Duckett before Root's unbeaten knock of 176, along with Harry Brook's 141, propelled England to 492/3 by day three's close. As the day progressed, England posted a commanding 823/7.

As Pakistan began their second innings, they added 23/1 with Saim Ayub and Shan Masood at the crease, trailing significantly behind England's mammoth total. (ANI)
