Rafa Nadal, the iconic Spanish tennis star with 22 Grand Slam singles titles to his name, has announced his retirement. The decision comes after the Davis Cup final, concluding a remarkable career that cements his status as one of tennis's greatest players. 'It has been some difficult years, these last two especially,' said the 38-year-old, reflecting on his journey, which includes a record-breaking 14 French Open titles.

Nadal shared his excitement about ending his career by representing Spain in the Davis Cup. 'It's closing the circle,' he said, reminiscing about the joy of winning his first Davis Cup final in Sevilla 2004. This year's Davis Cup knockout phase will occur from Nov. 19-24.

Injured and missing major tournaments, including the 2023 French Open, Nadal, known as the 'King of Clay,' won his last Roland Garros title in 2022. Having only played 23 matches over the past two seasons, Nadal will retire two years after his great rival, Roger Federer, leaving Novak Djokovic as the sole active member of the legendary 'Big Three.'

Spanish tennis player Rafa Nadal expressed heartfelt gratitude towards his family and team, notably acknowledging his uncle Toni, his long-time coach. He also thanked his fans for making his career 'a dream come true.' As Nadal departs, he leaves with 'absolute peace of mind,' having given his best in the sport. Although resistant to special events post his French Open exit, Nadal looks forward to an anticipated tribute at Roland Garros next year.
