In a landmark decision, Wimbledon plans to revolutionize its officiating by replacing all 300 human line judges with an advanced artificial intelligence system from 2025. The All England Club confirmed on its website that the Live Electronic Line Calling (Live ELC) system will be introduced across all 18 match courts.
This technological upgrade, scheduled for The Championships and Qualifying matches, aims to enhance accuracy by covering 'out' and 'fault' calls. The new ELC system has undergone rigorous testing at this year's tournament, paving the way for its full implementation.
Sally Bolton, Chief Executive of the All England Club, emphasized the importance of accuracy and innovation while acknowledging the valuable contributions of line umpires over the years. As the tournament embraces this digital transformation, fans can expect precise officiating in line with other global tennis events.
