Former England captain Alastair Cook has hailed Joe Root for surpassing his record as England's leading run-scorer in Tests, and suggested that Root has the potential to outshine Sachin Tendulkar's world record. Root achieved this milestone by becoming the highest Test run-scorer for England.

Speaking to the BBC, Cook remarked that he always believed his record would be broken and credited Root's performance to the absence of captaincy duties. He mentioned that unless an injury affects Root, the batsman's skill and determination could see him surpassing Tendulkar's record.

Root remains on track to reach 20,000 international runs, excelling in the ICC World Test Championship. His partnership with Harry Brook led England to a strong position against Pakistan. Cook, while acknowledging the challenge, sees Root as a worthy contender for Tendulkar's historic benchmark.
