Azhar Ali, former Test captain of Pakistan, has emerged as the top contender for a newly created senior role in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This position aims to revamp the board's youth development programme.

The PCB recently announced the vacant Director Youth Cricket position, setting an application deadline for October 31. Candidates must have played a minimum of 50 Tests for eligibility. According to sources, Ali is highly interested in the role, focusing on junior-level player development and system improvement.

Mohammad Yousuf, another ex-captain, is also vying for this role, contributing to his recent resignation as national selector. The new director will collaborate with regional coaches and academies, focusing on scouting and grooming talent while aiming to eradicate politics and age-fraud in tournaments.
