In a significant appointment for the Chicago Fire, former US national team coach Gregg Berhalter has been named the club's new head coach and director of football. Berhalter succeeds Frank Klopas, who will transition to a new role as the vice president of football after the season finale.
Berhalter, who becomes the 10th head coach in the Fire's history, will oversee all sporting operations within the club, including Chicago Fire II and the Chicago Fire Academy. His appointment comes as a strategic move aimed at reviving the team's fortunes and instilling a winning culture.
Having previously led the United States to the round of 16 at the 2022 Qatar World Cup and a successful stint with Columbus Crew, Berhalter is tasked with navigating the Fire back to playoff contention, a feat they haven't achieved since 2017.
