Gregg Berhalter Returns to MLS as Chicago Fire Head Coach and Director
Gregg Berhalter has been named head coach and director of football at Chicago Fire. Previously the U.S. men's national team manager, Berhalter returns to MLS, having led Columbus Crew in the past. Fire's current head coach, Frank Klopas, will transition to vice president after the regular season.
Gregg Berhalter is set to take on the role of head coach and director of football for the Chicago Fire, Major League Soccer announced Tuesday. His appointment follows his termination as U.S. men's manager after a disappointing Copa America performance.
Berhalter's return to MLS marks a significant chapter, following his successful tenure with Columbus Crew, where he led them to the playoffs four times and an MLS Cup appearance. 'Gregg's expertise makes him the ideal choice for our club,' expressed Joe Mansueto, Fire's owner and chairman.
Frank Klopas, the present head coach, will exit his role following the Oct. 19 season finale, transitioning into the vice president of football position under Berhalter's leadership.
