Following a commendable performance in the Irani Cup, Tanush Kotian has earned a spot in Mumbai's 16-member squad for the initial rounds of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, commencing on October 11. Mumbai is set to challenge Baroda in an away game at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara this Friday.
The Elite Group A of the Ranji Trophy also includes teams such as Jammu and Kashmir, Services, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Odisha. Mumbai will later host Maharashtra at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy starting October 18.
Tanush Kotian, affiliated with Rajasthan Royals, enters the Ranji Trophy in striking form. He was part of the India A team that clinched the Duleep Trophy 2024 in Anantapur last month, impressively taking 10 wickets across three matches with an average of 22.00 and a notable strike rate of 45.60, along with scoring 121 runs.
Kotian's outstanding all-round performance was crucial as Mumbai ended a 27-year wait for the Irani Cup victory. His unbeaten century in a critical match turnaround last season highlights his dual contribution, earning him the player of the series award with 29 wickets and over 500 runs.
The Mumbai squad, which includes cricket stars like Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw, Shardul Thakur, and Shreyas Iyer, promises a competitive season ahead. Ajinkya Rahane will lead the team, further energized by Kotian's versatile skills and form.
