South African cricketer Tabraiz Shamsi has decided to part ways with his central contract under Cricket South Africa (CSA), granting him more freedom to engage in T20 franchise leagues worldwide. Announced on Thursday, Shamsi's decision underscores his aim to balance professional opportunities with national commitment.
In a jointly issued statement, both CSA and Shamsi confirmed the agreement, highlighting the mutual understanding of Shamsi's needs for greater flexibility during the domestic season. Despite opting out, the 34-year-old spinner emphasized his ongoing dedication to representing South Africa in international cricket.
Shamsi clarified that his choice won't affect his motivation or availability for the Proteas, as he aims to pursue the World Cup dream for his country. CSA Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe endorsed Shamsi's plan, expressing confidence in Shamsi's loyalty and honest communication throughout the process. Shamsi's statistics reflect his impact, with 72 wickets in 51 ODIs and 89 wickets in 70 T20Is for South Africa.
