Barcelona Signs Szczesny to Strengthen Squad Amid Goalkeeper Crisis
Barcelona has signed Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as a free agent after losing Marc-Andre ter Stegen to a long-term injury. Szczesny, who had retired last month, reversed his decision to join Barca. The club aims to maintain its position at the top of the LaLiga standings.
Barcelona have signed Wojciech Szczesny as a free agent, the LaLiga club announced on Wednesday. The Polish goalkeeper reversed his decision to retire and joined the team following the long-term injury of Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Ter Stegen underwent surgery for a patella tendon rupture in his right knee, rendering him unavailable for the remainder of the season. Inaki Pena, 25, was initially set to cover for him. However, Barca opted to reinforce their squad with Szczesny, who had terminated his contract with Serie A side Juventus last month.
The 34-year-old former Poland international had one year left on his Juve contract and is known for replacing Gianluigi Buffon. With over 250 appearances for Juve and multiple league and cup victories, Szczesny's addition aims to help Barcelona maintain their lead in the LaLiga standings, where they currently stand with 21 points from eight games.
