Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated the main pavilion at SDAT Tennis Stadium as the 'Vijay Amritraj Pavilion' on Tuesday, paying tribute to the tennis legend for his contributions to the sport.

Stalin praised Amritraj's remarkable journey, noting his health issues during youth, hard work, and eventual success that brought pride to the nation. Amritraj, reflecting on his parents, described the honor as a profound blessing, expressing gratitude on behalf of his family.

Addressing the event, Amritraj stressed the importance of government initiatives to inspire young athletes, emphasizing significant growth potential in sports. He underscored the critical need to support athletes to achieve excellence and make India proud.

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram lauded the state government's decision, urging similar honors for other tennis icons like Ramanathan Krishnan. Earlier this year, Amritraj, along with Leander Paes, was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, marking a historic achievement for Asian players.
