Deshpande was notably absent from Mumbai's 30-man squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. He expressed relief following the surgery and gratitude towards his supporters.

The pacer, who debuted internationally on India's tour of Zimbabwe, bagged 15 wickets in Mumbai's record 43rd Ranji Trophy title win last season. The defending champions will kick off their campaign on October 11 against Baroda in Vadodara.
