World Cup-winning coach Dav Whatmore has expressed doubts over the sustainability of Test cricket, suggesting that several countries, particularly associate nations, may abandon the red-ball format due to its high costs.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering the creation of a dedicated fund of at least $15 million to support Test cricket. This initiative aims to increase the minimum match payments for Test players and cover the expenses of sending teams on overseas tours.

Whatmore, speaking at the Cricket Predicta Conclave, emphasized the ICC's challenge in maintaining the importance of Test match cricket, highlighting that while countries like India, Australia, and England excel, many others struggle. A robust domestic calendar is critical for sustained success, Whatmore noted, applauding India's strong domestic structure and development programs like the IPL and under-19 tournaments.
