BCCI's Centre of Excellence chief, VVS Laxman, emphasizes the importance of patience and adherence to protocols in the rehabilitation of injured cricketers. He highlighted the successful recovery of players like Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah. Laxman also discussed the mental challenges athletes face during rehab and stressed on comprehensive healing techniques.
BCCI's Centre of Excellence chief, VVS Laxman, stressed that following necessary protocols is more crucial than adhering to preset timelines during the rehabilitation of injured cricketers. He noted that top players, including Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, spent months at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to recover fully while maintaining their skills.
Laxman highlighted that patience is vital during the rehabilitation process, as unexpected delays in recovery are common. He cited Pant's and Bumrah's examples to underscore the importance of mental strength and patience for a successful comeback. Laxman, who has been extended for another year, elaborated on the protocols followed at the CoE.
The chief noted that the most challenging part of rehab is the idle time experienced by elite athletes accustomed to rigorous training. He stressed the importance of complete healing before resuming play to prevent recurring injuries and mentioned the injury-prevention programs now in place. The CoE's modern facilities and standardized fitness protocols have been extended to domestic players, enhancing collaboration across levels.
