In-form spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been recalled to Bangladesh's T20I squad for their upcoming three-match series against India. Mehidy's last T20I outing for Bangladesh was in July 2023 against Afghanistan, and since then, he missed 24 T20Is despite being integral in other formats.
Joining Mehidy in the squad are opener Parvez Hossain Emon and left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan, both of whom have been recalled. Shakib Al Hasan, who recently announced his retirement from the T20I format, is among the notable absentees. Soumya Sarkar, who played in the T20 World Cup earlier this year, has also been left out.
Bangladesh Chief Selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain praised Shakib's contributions. 'We don't have anyone to replace his experience and performance, but we feel that Mehidy Hasan Miraz is a good batter who can handle the middle order,' Hossain said. Mehidy will have to adapt to the T20I role, given his batting average of 14.58 and a strike rate of 118.66 from 20 T20I innings.
'We have brought in Parvez Hossain Emon in Soumya Sarkar's place and Rakibul, who replaces the injured Tanvir,' Hossain added. The three-match T20I series will start on October 6 in Gwalior, followed by matches on October 9 in New Delhi, and October 12 in Hyderabad.
The squad includes Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Emon, Tawhid Hridoy, Mahmud Ullah, Litton Kumer Das, Jaker Ali Anik, Mehidy Hassan Miraz, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Rakibul Hasan.
