Shakib Al Hasan Announces Retirement Amidst Controversy and Uncertain Future
Bangladeshi cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has announced his immediate retirement from T20 Internationals and plans to retire from Test cricket. The 37-year-old, facing accusations in a murder case during Bangladesh's political unrest, expressed safety concerns and uncertainty about returning to his home country. Shakib will continue to play in franchise leagues.
In a surprising announcement, Bangladesh's cricket all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan declared his retirement from T20 Internationals with immediate effect. He also stated that the second Test against India could be his last if he does not receive a farewell match at home against South Africa.
Shakib's final international appearance for Bangladesh will be in the Champions Trophy, anticipated to be held in UAE and Pakistan. The 37-year-old has decided to continue participating in franchise leagues despite ending his T20I career.
During an interaction with Bangladeshi media, Shakib, who is also facing accusations in a murder case amid political unrest in Bangladesh, revealed concerns about his safety and indicated he might not return home after the current series in India if security cannot be assured.
