Sri Lanka overcame an early setback, losing opener Pathum Nissanka in the opening over, to reach 102 for one at lunch on the first day of the second Test against New Zealand.

Dinesh Chandimal, who was promoted to No. 3, delivered an impressive performance, scoring an unbeaten 60. He formed a crucial 100-run partnership with Dimuth Karunaratne, who remained not out on 40.

This partnership solidified Sri Lanka's position after winning the toss, with hopes of clinching a series win against New Zealand for the first time since 2009. Having won the opening Test by 63 runs, Sri Lanka leads the two-match series 1-0.
