Shikhar Dhawan, the former India opener, announced on Wednesday that he lacked the inspiration needed to continue playing domestic cricket for a shot at the national team, leading to his retirement last month.

Dhawan retired at 38, having played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is between 2013 and 2022. He was India's 25th ODI skipper and captained 12 matches, winning seven. Despite an illustrious career, including notable IPL performances, Dhawan stepped aside for younger talent like Shubman Gill before the last ODI World Cup.

Reflecting on his career, Dhawan shared his contentment and gratitude for his achievements, including leading India to several victories and setting IPL records. He admired Rohit Sharma's continued success and leadership, highlighting India's T20 World Cup win.
