Lebanese Football Matches Postponed Amid Rising Tensions
The Lebanese Football Association has postponed all matches due to escalating conflicts between Israel and Hezbollah. Recent airstrikes have resulted in significant casualties and a mass exodus of people seeking safety. The Lebanese Premier League's new season and international qualifiers are also affected.
The Lebanese Football Association (LFA) has postponed all soccer matches in its affiliated tournaments following recent airstrikes by Israel on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, and subsequent retaliations by Hezbollah on military facilities in northern Israel.
According to Lebanese authorities, the airstrikes have resulted in 558 fatalities and 1,835 injuries. These aggressive confrontations have forced tens of thousands to flee their homes in search of safety, stoking fears of an impending full-scale war.
As a result, the LFA announced that all matches will be rescheduled to a later date. The Lebanese Premier League's 2024-25 season had just commenced last week, while the national team has been hosting World Cup qualifiers abroad. Similar precautions have been taken by Palestine and Israel, who have moved their home games to neutral venues.
