Kolkata will witness an electrifying showdown as Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) host their second home game of the Indian Super League (ISL) against NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) on Monday. The Mariners are eager for their maiden victory following a draw with Mumbai City FC (MCFC) in their opener.

NorthEast United FC, boosted by a last-minute triumph over Mohammedan SC courtesy of Alaeddine Ajaraie, are optimistic about a third straight win. They recently defeated MBSG in the Durand Cup 2024 final and aim to replicate that success. Remarkably, Mohun Bagan Super Giant have netted in 15 of their 16 ISL matches in 2024, maintaining an 11-match scoring streak, nearing their record of 12.

NEUFC have shown defensive solidity with three clean sheets in their past four matches. Preventing MBSG from scoring will mark a milestone for consecutive clean sheets in ISL play. MBSG coach Jose Molina stresses on shoring up defense after squandering a 2-0 lead against Mumbai City FC. He remains focused on improvements in the upcoming fixtures.

'We must play and defend better to win. I'm not satisfied currently, but we work daily to avoid conceding goals while staying positive,' stated Molina. Juan Pedro Benali, NEUFC's head coach, believes MBSG will come out fighting, despite recent lackluster outcomes. 'They are a formidable team eager to overcome us, and we must make it tough for them.'

MBSG's Dimitri Petratos, known for his offensive prowess, is key to their attacking threat, having delivered 10 goals and seven assists last season. NEUFC's pacey winger, Jithin MS, creates significant opportunities and seeks his first goal of the season. Outstanding performer Mohammed Bemmamer will look to dominate the midfield as he did previously, while MBSG's Liston Colaco, a historic high-scorer against NEUFC, aims to extend his record.
