Sri Lanka Clinches 63-Run Victory in Galle Test Against New Zealand
Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya secured a five-wicket haul as Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand by 63 runs in the first test at Galle. New Zealand, needing 275 for victory, were dismissed for 211. Jayasuriya was named player of the match for his nine-wicket haul.
Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya took just two overs to dismantle New Zealand's tail, securing a five-wicket haul and sealing a 63-run victory for Sri Lanka in the opening test at Galle International Stadium on Monday.
Chasing 275 for victory, New Zealand fell short, managing only 211 runs. Rachin Ravindra's valiant 92 was not enough to negotiate the sharp turn and low bounce at the venue.
Jayasuriya, who finished with figures of 5-68, claimed his eighth five-wicket haul, seven of which have come at Galle. His match haul of nine wickets earned him the player of the match award. The second test in the series will also be held in Galle, starting Thursday.
