New Zealand's Racing Minister Winston Peters has announced the appointment of David Howman to the Racing Integrity Board, alongside the reappointment of two existing members, Dr. Patricia Pearce and Brent Williams, for their second terms. These appointments come as part of the government's continued focus on ensuring high standards within the racing industry.

David Howman, a globally recognized expert in sports integrity, will serve on the Board for a three-year term starting on 30 September 2024, replacing Penny Mudford, whose term ended earlier this year. Howman brings decades of international experience, having held senior roles in organizations that promote integrity and fairness in sport. The Racing Integrity Board, established under the Racing Industry Act 2020 during Peters' previous term as Racing Minister, plays a critical role in upholding the principles of animal welfare, fairness, and professionalism within the racing sector. "New Zealanders expect racing to be safe for the animals and fair for the punters. The Board is integral to ensuring these expectations are met," said Peters.

Dr. Patricia Pearce and Brent Williams, both respected figures in the industry, have been reappointed for second terms on the Board. Their reappointments reflect confidence in their ongoing contributions to the integrity and development of New Zealand's racing industry. Mr. Howman joins current members Dr. Pearce, Aaron Lloyd, and Brent Williams, alongside Chairperson Neville Harris. His term, set to begin on 30 September 2024, will extend until 29 September 2027. Minister Peters also expressed gratitude to outgoing Board member Penny Mudford, acknowledging her "commitment and valuable contributions," especially in governance and mediation, during her time on the Board. With these appointments, the Racing Integrity Board is well-positioned to continue its work in safeguarding the integrity of the racing industry, ensuring that it operates with the highest standards of animal welfare and fairness.
