Beatriz Haddad Maia made a remarkable comeback to defeat top-seeded Daria Kasatkina 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the Korea Open final on Sunday, securing her first WTA tour title of the season.
This victory marks the fourth title in the No. 3 seed's career and culminates a period of strong form for the Brazilian, who has now won 12 of her last 14 matches. Haddad Maia's impressive run also includes advancing to the final in Cleveland and reaching the quarterfinals of the US Open.
Although Kasatkina started off strong, taking the first set in just 26 minutes and leading 2-0 in the second, Haddad Maia staged a comeback to win the set. She then broke Kasatkina in the fourth game of the third set to take a 3-1 lead and cruised to victory in just under two hours.
