Bangladesh batting coach David Hemp on Saturday confirmed his unawareness of star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan's injury. During the first Test against India, Shakib bowled a challenging spell on day three, conceding six fours and two sixes to Rishabh Pant. Throughout 2023, Hasan has struggled, scoring just 295 runs in 18 innings and taking 18 wickets, with concerns raised about his recent finger surgery.
Commentator Murali Karthik highlighted the surgical impact on Hasan's bowling, noting the all-rounder's discomfort and reduced efficiency. Karthik explained, "He has had a finger surgery on his bowling finger. It's swollen, rigid, and lacks suppleness, affecting his feel as a spinner. Combined with shoulder issues, it's challenging for him in Test cricket."
Hemp pointed out the batting-friendly conditions at MA Chidambaram Stadium and emphasized the importance of scoring runs. Following the match's third day, Bangladesh ended at 158/4, with a solid but daunting target of reaching 515 set by India. Standout performances by Indian batters Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill fortified India's commanding position in the game.
