Star Indian cricketer Shubman Gill expressed his delight in watching teammate Rishabh Pant achieve his first half-century and century since his comeback during the second inning of the first Test against Bangladesh. Pant scored an impressive 109 runs off 128 balls, hitting 13 fours and 4 sixes before being dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 56th over of India's second inning.
Speaking at the post-day press conference, Gill elaborated on Pant's hard work and dedication to returning to form after his serious injury. 'I have spent a lot of time on and off the field with him, and seeing him score his first fifty and first century following his comeback gives me immense pleasure. He has worked so hard for this moment, and I believe he must be feeling very good,' Gill commented.
Pant's return to Test cricket marks his first appearance since a life-threatening road accident at the end of 2022. By the end of day three, Bangladesh stood at 158/4, with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (51*) and Shakib Al Hasan (5*) at the crease. Early wickets from Jasprit Bumrah and a crucial trio from Ravichandran Ashwin stunted Bangladesh's efforts. The day's play resumed with India at 205/3, with Pant and Gill dominating the scoreboard. India declared their innings at 287/4, setting a formidable target of 515 runs for Bangladesh to win the first match of the series.
