Bangladesh's Challenging Run Chase Against India
Bangladesh started cautiously in their daunting chase of 515 against India in the first test. Openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam made a positive start but face a huge task. India's Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant highlighted their innings with stellar centuries, putting India in a commanding position.
Bangladesh initiated their challenging pursuit of a 515-run target against India with a cautious start, reaching 56 for no loss in the first test match on Saturday.
Openers Zakir Hasan, who scored 32, and Shadman Islam, with 21 runs, played positively until the tea break on the third day. Yet, saving the test will require an extraordinary batting effort from the visitors. Earlier in the day, India declared their second innings at 287-4, thanks to unbeaten centuries from Shubman Gill (119) and Rishabh Pant (109) in his comeback test.
India had dominated since dismissing Bangladesh for 149 in the first innings, gaining a formidable lead of 227 at Chennai's M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. Gill's aggressive play included two sixes off Mehidy Hasan Miraz, signaling India's intent. Pant, following a more traditional approach, also capitalized on a dropped catch by Bangladesh's skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto, to register his sixth test hundred before being caught by Mehidy.
Gill remained undeterred, despite Pant's departure, completing his fifth test hundred with a mix of 10 fours and four sixes.
